Overview

Parade (パレード) is a Japanese Yume Nikki fangame made by GIOGIO in RPG Maker 2000. This game has been discontinued at version 0.07, the artist requesting the game not be publicly reuploaded.

Gameplay

Parade is a traditional fangame. At the beginning of the game the player is given the option to play as either Reika or Iwakutsuki. Both of them share the Yume Nikki "syndrome" - they either refuse to leave their rooms or are stuck inside of them. Trying to open the door just results in a locked door sound. Therefore, the only thing both of them can do is dream.

The goal of the game is to explore and collect effects. There are multiple endings for both characters. The dream world is entered through the bed and saving is done at the desk.

Controls

  • Move - Arrow Keys
  • Interact - Z/Space
  • Open Menu - X/Esc
  • Effect Action - Shift

Plot

Whilst Reika is described as a person with Myopia (nearsightedness), Iwakutsuki is described as a "Madman" (Un matto). When Iwakutsuki pinches herself to wake up from the dream, she has a tear in her eye.

The reason for this game having two protagonists and the relation between them is revealed later in the game and is highly hinted at in the endings.

Dagger
(ドス)
ParadeEff20
Reika wields a Japanese dagger without a brim. She uses it to kill other characters. Pressing Shift causes her to raise it to show the blade's length, while it shines.

The name is possibly derived from Choudosu (長ドス, lit. long knife), though its description calls it an Aikuchi (あいくち, dagger).

Writing Sheet/Shitajiki
(したじき)
ParadeEff14
Reika turns into a big red shitajiki.
Mutilation
(せつだん)
ParadeEff05

Pointed Hat
(とがり帽)
ParadeEff04
Reika wears a black witch's hat with a white ribbon and bow. One of her friends wears the same hat as well.

This effect and the NPC who gives it to Reika may be a reference to Marisa Kirisame, a magician from the popular game series Touhou Project.
